Solid Rock Baptist Church, is a young Church that was started in July of 2012. A small
group of people felt the need and the moving of God to start a new Church in the southwest side
of Sumter. While praying and seeking the Lord’s leadership, they asked Pastor Larry Hummel,
to help them. He accepted their request, and the Church was under way.
We did not have a place to meet, so Pastor and Mrs. Hummel invited us to meet in their house until we could get a place to meet. In 2013 the Lord opened the door for us to get 14 acres of Land with a house on it. Which we thought that we could remodel and use the house to meet in. However that was not acceptable with the county, so we continued to meet in Pastor and Mrs. Hummel’s house.
The Lord continued to bless, and in 2019 we were able to start construction on a small building on our property. The Lord put us in contact with a group of men called The Craftsmen for Christ. Directed by Mr. Ronnie Venable, who has since went home to be with the Lord. The new Director is Mr. Joey Pegram. The Craftsmen for Christ is a missions group who help small churches like ours to build their Church building. What a blessing they were!
The Craftsmen for Christ men came in June of 2019 to start construction, and in April 2020 we moved into our new building. In the midst of the pandemic, God blessed us with a new building. Although the pandemic hindered us considerably, we have seen the Lord’s hand evident in the Church, and we are looking ahead with great anticipation for God’s blessings upon this ministry.
